This video and one of the comments that it received made me think about what people consider as the standard of "making it."
Have we "made it" if we have cable?
Have we "made it" if we have a roof over our heads?
There's nothing wrong with growing up in the projects, sometimes we're born into circumstances that are beyond our control. However, there does come a point where we're old enough to begin to change our circumstances. At that point, we have to define what we consider having "made it."
The scheme of the Projects is effective on Black People, IF they remain in the substandard living conditions and actually feel comfortable in it.
In fact, in many cases, the greatest minds and most expanded consciousnesses come from the hood because these were the individuals who experienced conditions that they determined would not define who they are as a person... they knew they were more, they created more, they manifested their full potential.
And when a person has manifested their full potential or done everything in their power to improve their personal situation, only then should they consider themselves having "made it."
